My dwarven census

I own way too many tabletop miniatures and too many armies. It goes to the point that I once even bought something because I thought I need it, but I actually then found out I already owned the models albeit in an unassembled state.  So I finally decided to count up the first of my armies and decided I will start with the dwarves.  Well what to say... depending on how you count it, they totalled on 220 dwarfs plus 3 earth elementals that are "usually" used with my Forces of Nature. For artillery there are 2 ballistas +2 organ guns +3 cannons. I could swear I have a 4th cannon... maybe it is with my Kingdoms of Men. Of those 230 dwarfs, around 77 of them are unpainted or primed. Not to forget my two Gyrocopters unassembled... A few -around 6- of the dwarfs are self-made recasts (like one of the Gyrocopters) in miliput, the rest are 98% old GW models. I actually own a few more Lord of the Rings dwarfs, but those are "separate". I do not want to add them here as I feel...

Custom made Kings of War Scenario: Conjure

Back when the official Mantic forum was still existing, I posted a self-made scenario I made.  I created it when I still played with the Kings Of War: Vanguard Beta Rules. Time flies!  I actually wanted it to be heavily featured in the A corner of Mantica campaign that I created, but I later on decided against it. I now realized, that after the official forum was taken down, the Scenario was not available to anyone but me... So I decided to share the link here . Feel free to enjoy and alter the scenario as you see fit. Feedback of any kind, and also about balancing is welcome.

Using Schleich miniatures in Tabletop/Kings of War

Do you know the german company Schleich? They are a toy producer and I notice them getting bigger each year. They have some really good looking toys... horses, but also knigths and monsters. I already had some Schleich toys a few times in my hand and wondered if they were suitable to be used for my fantasy tabletop games. In my opinion, those prepainted toys look very good, but the problem is, they are a too big for normal 28mm fantasy use so I never saw the opportunity. However, this week I came across another Schleich miniature by accident when shopping for groceries. To be specific (now, having done a bit of research): It was their stone monster  of their new Eldrador line. Owning enough models to field a not-too shabby Forces of Nature army , I thought if it would make a good Greater Earth Elemental . I really love the Mantic model and had already thought about buying one after seeing one all painted up in full beauty. But because of the painting required, the price of ab...

A few toughts on Kings of War 3rd Edition

At the Tactica in Hamburg I finally got my hands on the new rulebook and supplement book for my favorite tabletop system, Kings of War. Who knows... maybe the second mass battle of the A corner of Mantica campaign we are currently running might already be with the vanilla rules for 3rd edition. After reading through both books I have to say, I really dig what Mantic did with the world. I love the layout, I love the stories and the quality of the book. I am not a big fan of the rule changes however, I think the system lost some of its simplistic elegance. If that is true or not, I will only be able to see after I get my first games under my belly.

Campaign Mass Battle 1: (First) Battle at the Beachhead

Finally... after 2 Vanguard skirmishes, we were ready for the big thing. We both hadn't played the normal KoW for quite some time, so we first did a test match which ended in a draw.  This weekend, we met to fight the real battle using the Vanilla 2nd Edition Rules! My list consisted of: 2x Horde of Sharpsticks (one with Blessing of the Gods 25 pts) 1x Horde of Spitters (with Heart Seeking Chant 30 pts) 1x Horde of Trolls (with Chant of Hate 25 pts) 1x Regiment Mawbeast pack 1x Regiment of Fleabag Rides (with Helm of Confidence 20 pts) [and they were definetely led by Biggit Crunchem !] 1x Sharpstick Thrower 1x King on Chariot with the item gaining: no minus modifier when moving costing 30 pts [ Warchief Dakkadak ] 1x Flaggit (with Diadem of Dragon Kind 30 pts) 1x Wiz with Inspiring Talisman and Bane Chant 1x Troll Bruiser with Darklords Onyx Ring ~20 Pts) [ I believe this is my Vanguard Troll, being an alone hero here! ] 2x Giants totalling 1870 pts. Base game w...

Vanguard Battle 2: Supply Grab

On thursday the second battle took place. I was the defender with only 175 pts and needed to decide on a smaller list. i also knew i was going up against Blaine and knew I could not out-kill my enemy. I knew I would have to out-last him and hold the objective. Finally I decided on: 4x Luggits on foot (or 3) 2x Luggits Mounted 1x Rabble 1x Wiz 1x Biggit (with Heavy Weapon) (Biggit Crunchem) 1x Troll (with Heavy Weapon) The elves, lead by Blaine came with: 2x Kindred Archers, 1x Kindred Tallspear 1x Citizen Levy 1x Battle Mage 1x Forest Shambler 1x Blaine We then decided we would go for the "Kings of War Hook" from the book instead of the hook provided in the campaign for the winner. We put up the terrain and I found out that I once again had forgotten something crucial... to put a hill into my backpack! The mission objective should be placed on a height 2 hill!  But we were able to improvise quite well as you will see on the pictures... ...
